  10.     Are we getting into one of those "grey" areas concerning religion and
  11. its place in modern society?  Do computers and the Bible have anything in
  12. common?  Will we now have to publish something about the Koran or the works
  13. of Aleister Crowley?
  14.  
  15.     Hell if I know.  I've always considered the computer to be one of the
  16. best tools for learning because it can present quizzes better than a human
  17. can.  If a computer is programmed correctly it will never tell you the
  18. answer; when a human is giving you a quiz, all you have to do is bend one
  19. of his fingers back a ways and unless he's G. Gordon Liddy, he will
  20. probably spill his guts.

  22.     David Presley, no relation to any King as far as I know, is a Bible fan
  23. and has come up with a pretty good quiz on the history, books and people of
  24. the Bible.  I surprised myself by knowing a lot more about it than I
  25. thought I did, and you may, too.  But it's not an easy quiz -- he has done
  26. extensive research to make it appropriate for all ages.  There are some
  27. help screens in the program that explain what all is involved.

  29.     I asked David to make it more "informational" than "preachy" and he
  30. seems to have done a very fine job.  If I may offer an opinion about
  31. religion in the US, it's that evangelism, and not religion, is what worries
  32. people like me who are skeptical.  I never get mad at believers until I'm
  33. stopped on the street, or have my doorbell rung, or read about censorship.
  34. Jeff Jones is a very religious person and he has never tried to push
  35. anything on me.  Guess what?  He's only made me curious, not mad.  So
  36. because of the way David has presented BIBLE BASICS, I'm happy to put it on
  37. LOADSTAR, where I imagine quite a few readers will like it.  End of
  38. opinion.

  40.     However, in the interest of fairness, if anyone has a program (quiz or
  41. otherwise) about an equally controversial topic, send it to me.  If it's
  42. done as well as David's program, we'll run it.

  44.     Two little "quirks" appeared in the program when we tested it.  In the
  45. section where you are given two books of the Bible and asked what comes
  46. between, David lists "Table of Contents" as appearing just before Genesis,
  47. and "Maps" as appearing just after Revelations.  Your Bible may not be laid
  48. out the same way as David's.  We definitely don't want to get into a
  49. controversy over which version of the Bible is best.  Use your judgment and
  50. may we all be filled with slack.
